Crowds, Crowds.

This is a work I made in summer, based on my project about discussing the loneliness of  people feel in today's sociality. The main  character is looking to audiences directly, I was trying to break the fourth wall to give an emotional   connection with viewers. And as the background, high buildings and people walking away show this kind of feeling.

Watermark print is so special that brings nice wooden texture, and using a slow method to deep the colour, and so on it is easy to show a soft blooming colour effect with print the same section one time by one time by slowly adding pigment.

When I back to college, I decide to use lithography to reproduce it, to having another perspective to look at my work. I changed a bit about the background, making people and buildings more indistinct but dynamic.

I kept the very simple cartoon-like face, adding this kind of humour here in artworks is always the thing I wanna do, at least it do give me a sense of leaving the reality.

Chaos background is making a strong mess, so I try to highlight the character by sticking on a layer of green transparent paper on the top of  my paper and then printed them. I quite like this technique, it brings out one special story sense.

I also did other practices to describe the crowd I saw and how I feel, this etching print is what produced when I let my mind freely go, I saw a huge amount of people walking to the same destination and what in there is an unfathomable terror. However we queing on line, waiting to enter. 

The white cat here has the meaning of obsevation. An outsider which is not us.
